If you are business owner or IT director, you are probably in charge of ERP selection, licenses purchase, implementation project management, customization and possible MRP tailoring, users training, data conversion, modified reporting (including such tools as SRS, Crystal Reports, Report Writer, FRX and Microsoft Dexterity). Current version for September 2007 is Microsoft Great Plains 10.0. Upgrade path at this time is from GP 9.0 SP2, or from GP 8.0 SP5; in the case of working through upgrade scenarios, please consider if you can upgrade first to 9.0 SP2 or 8.0 SP5 - if this is possible - you are on the highway to be upgraded to GP 10.0. Let us give you some technology highlights: 1. Windows 64 bit platform. You can install SQL Server 2005 64 bit edition and above it GP 10.0; at this time Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Portal (Requisition Management, Order management, Employee Self Service, Electronic Document Delivery, and other BP hosted modules) is not supported on 64 bit edition Windows server version. Microsoft has plans to begin testing BP on 64 bit OS toward the end of 2007 2. Customization Upgrade Scenarios. One of the most popular customization tools was and is - Microsoft Dexterity, former name Great Plains Dexterity. Dex upgrade requires you, GP customer, to provide GP Dexterity development partner Dynamics.DIC or Extract.DIC with Dex sanscript codes 3. GP Business Ready or GP Professional. In January 2007 Microsoft Business Solutions subdivision made a decision to kind of deemphasize former GP standard licensing scheme and come into competition with such ERP products as SAP Business One, where licensing is per named user. If you currently own GP in your organization, you should contact your GP VAR of records, or call us, Alba Spectrum Group to discuss ERP licensing conversion schemas 4. GP backoffice integration options. If you think in Ecommerce terms, please make initial research in such GP SDK and integration tool as eConnect. We can help you out with extending eConnect with e-commerce posting scenarios - Alba Spectrum Posting Server allows your to post GP batches from eCommerce application (read as if you are Microsoft Visual Studio C# or VB.Net developer - you can program batch posting with you tool, assuming that you are familiar with ADO.Net and calling SQL Stored Procedure from VS project)
